Abstract
It is possible to study the behaviour of model solid dosage forms in vivo using suitable radiolabelled materials and monitoring externally using a gamma camera or scintiscanning equipment (Alpsten et al. 1976, Casey et al. 1976, Hunter et al. 1980). The information most readily obtained from such studies is the behaviour of the dosage forms in the stomach and the subsequent emptying into the duodenum. Once in the small intestine, the position of the dosage forms cannot so readily be determined, and hence information is more difficult to interpret.
