The Quest for Security

Abstract

During their meeting of November 1946 in New York, Bevin, Byrnes, Bidault and Molotov decided that their Deputies should meet in London (January 1947) in order to prepare a peace treaty and to study the various desiderata and suggestions of other Governments concerned with respect to the German problem. Accordingly, the views of the Netherlands Government were made known to them, a) by a Memorandum on Allied Policy with regard to Germany, of January 14, 1947 and b) by a Netherlands Delegation which, during a hearing on January 28, 1947, elucidated the Dutch standpoint in some detail. Finally, a supplementary Memorandum regarding the Dutch territorial and economic claims, chiefly of a technical character, was brought to the Deputies’ notice on January 25, 1947.
