Abstract

In this chapter, we demonstrate how inclusion problems are applied to estimate macroscopic plastic properties of aggregates, i.e. particle bearing materials and polycrystalline materials. In these materials, internal stress usually develops as a result of plastic deformation which is inherently heterogeneous due to the heterogeneity of the constituent medium. These internal stresses can be calculated in a straightforward manner by using the methods of Chapters 2 and 3. If one finds a way to connect these internal stresses with the applied stress needed to produce the plastic deformation, one can eventually predict the macroscopic plastic properties.
