Abstract

Among the Reformers attached in spirit to the Wittenberg circle Justus Menius stands as the leading polemicist against the Anabaptists. Menius knew whereof he wrote. He had more contacts with the Anabaptists than did any of the Lutheran opponents of the radicals in Central Germany.1 His position as superintendent at Eisenach after 1529 brought him into the heart of West Thuringian Anabaptist territory. He knew Rink, though how well it is impossible to determine.
