Abstract

Crisis intervention has become so popular that it is the subject of nearly 50 books and hundreds of scientific papers. It has proved its usefulness for a variety of mental disorders and for human problems which are not a psychiatric illness. For the chronic mental patient (CMP), it has a special usefulness. Effective crisis intervention designed to meet the needs of the CMP is likely to answer some of the concerns and criticisms of the deinstitutionalization movement, though it must be said from the beginning that crisis intervention is not the only service needed by that population [1].
