Abstract
The importance of minerals in the life of micro-organisms was recently emphasized in an excellent book concerning the fundamental aspects of the interactions between mineral elements and micro-organisms71. The catalytic, structural and stabilizing functions of mineral elements in microbial cells, the capacity of certain elements to induce or suppress some secondary metabolisms, and cell uptake and storage of these elements were pointed out.
