Abstract
During the last decade many attempts have been made to correlate behavioral or psychiatric disorders with abnormalities in neurotransmission. Interest and extensive laboratory investigation have centred upon noradrenaline, 5-hydroxytryptamine and dopamine. An obstacle to investigation of such correlation is the impossibility of directly studying central neurotransmission in living patients. Advances have been achieved but results tend to be conflicting (The Lancet, editorial review, 1981).
