Abstract
Jaundice occurs when the total bilirubin level in the serum rises above 2 mg per 100 ml. It may be classified pathophysiologically into the following categories:

haemolysis
-
dyserythropoiesis
-
non-haemolytic hyperbilirubinaemias
-
hepatocellular
-
extra- and intrahepatic cholestasis
