Abstract
Recent interest in the structure of transition nuclei1,2) prompted us to reinvestigate in detail the 198Hg and 200Hg level schemes from the disintegrations of 198m,198,200Tl and to determine apin assignments and transition probabilities in these two nuclei. Energy spectra and transition rates of the low — lying levels as well as theoretical predictions3,4), suggested a strong vibrational nature and led us to search the members of the two phonon — triplet at about 1 MeV excitation energy.
