863.6 – 810.6 keV γ - γ Directional Correlation in 58 Fe

Abstract

The decay scheme of 58Co is particularly simple1) (fig. 1). The γγ directional correlation of the 863.6 – 810.6 keV cascade from the decay of 58Co was measured by several authors2–6) with Nal (Tl) detectors. What should be, in principle, straight forward measurements are rendered difficult by the low intensity of the 863.6 keV γ — ray and by the proximity of the 863.6 keV γ — ray to the very intense 810.6 keV γ — ray. Nevertheless, reasonably consistent results have been obtained in five different measurements with 58Co sources as shown in table 1.
