Abstract
As well as the risks to workers in the fuel and power industries the hazard to the general public arising from different means of electricity generation must also be considered. The main source is in the discharge of wastes from the power station. Here again the smaller quantities involved weigh heavily in favour of nuclear power. There is in addition a major difference of attitude in that the policy of the nuclear industry is that waste should as far as possible be concentrated and contained, whereas the policy with regard to fossil fuel plants is that the gaseous discharges should be diluted and dispersed.
