Abstract
A mesothelioma is a neoplasm of the mesothelium. The mesothelium is the cellular lining of the original coelomic cavities, including their derivates and remnants. From a practical point of view, it is the mesotheliomas of the greater serosal cavities that are of major importance, the rest being of lesser interest, but they all take a natural place within the limits of this atlas. For this reason the atlas is mainly devoted to DIFFUSE MALIGNANT MESOTHELIOMA of the PLEURA, PERITONEUM and PERICARDIUM. Other forms of ‘mesothelioma’ are dealt with briefly at the end of the atlas.
