Abstract
There is certainly much controversy around the subject of osteoporosis. The noise associated with frontline battles may obscure perception of very real acquisitions that have been made in areas of practical significance. The importance of therapy — of treatments with calcium, oestrogens, fluoride, and possibly vitamin D — is now less disputed and deserves to be more generally appreciated. Four authors, each with much experience in this field, were invited to participate in this workshop and to enlarge upon those issues which they considered to be of greatest importance. Their contributions are summarized in this report.
