Abstract
Management of the severely retarded tends to be characterized by the twin problems of maladaptive behaviour and chronic medical disorder. Of the latter one of the commonest is epilepsy. Approximately one-quarter of the severely subnormal have epileptic disorders and it is, therefore, important that those who are involved in the care of the handicapped are familiar with the diagnosis and management of this condition.
