Cross-cultural Factors that Affect Age of Menopause

  • Chapter
Consensus on Menopause Research

Abstract

Studies of factors that affect the age of menopause are nowhere nearly as clearly defined as are those factors thought to influence the age of menarche. Moreover, menopausal age, specifically, and how it is affected by specific factors have been studied by few researchers, although there have been many references to the believed effects of these factors on delayed or early menopause. In this paper I will review some aspects of reproductive history, genetic factors, pathological, geographical and socio-economic factors, and a secular trend as they may influence age of menopause cross-culturally.
