Abstract
The first two international centres: the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños (Philippines) and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) in El Batan (Mexico), were established by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Ford Foundation in 1959 and 1966, respectively.
