Abstract

Our topic has been the reintegration of the medically exceptional child. During this conference, we talked with one another and we thought individually a great deal about all aspects of this topic. In doing so, we have dealt with the role, including the rights and responsibilities, of the family, medicine, and education. We have explored the ethical and philosophical issues of reintegration. We have talked about the financial issues and legal ramifications involved. Indeed, we have said in several ways that we would not have held a conference like this in 1959 or the early 1960s. We have reflected that a growing awareness of the needs of these children was really put into a legal framework in the late 1960s and the 1970s.
