Abstract
Development of synthetic vitamin A derivatives (synthetic retinoids) for prophylaxis and treatment of epithelial neoplasia has been underway for the last 10 years;1–14 since 1971, retinoids have been reported to be effective as both prophylactic and therapeutic agents in experimental skin cancers. Moreover, clinical therapeutic benefits have been observed in man in some non-pigmented cutaneous and mucous premalignant and malignant disorders.1–14
