Abstract

The most important disorder to detect and diagnose early is loss of hearing. Among communication disorders hearing loss is both the most common and the most remediable, if not medically, then by the use of amplification and special education. The need for early detection is stressed since the small child is a developing organism. There is evidence that language acquisition begins at birth and the ability to acquire language decreases over the first few years of life (Lenneberg, 1967).
