Abstract
China’s acupuncture is a time-honored branch of oriental folk medicine, mainly based on Oriental esoteric doctrines, held in common by the Hindus and the Chinese. Western research has confirmed some of the Oriental teaching regarding acupuncture and yoga exercises for physical and mental health. However, Western science presently regards acupuncture mainly as a technique of hyper stimulation analgesia for pain control. Data in support of this point of view are briefly discussed. The use of acupuncture in various pain states is mentioned, with reference to classic “twisting of the needles” and modern electroacupuncture.
