Abstract
Increasing public concern and amounts of resources are being devoted to the problems of individuals with long-term physical and mental impairments (LaPorte and Rubin 1979). Many of the physically and mentally disabled have conditions that are not subject to cure. While the impact of the impairments on daily living may be diminished through various types of medical, social and economic interventions, it will not ever be possible to totally relieve the burdens imposed on these individuals by their conditions.
