Abstract
The intake of a number of toxic substances may produce disturbances of function of various parts of the nervous system. In general the treatment of these disorders is based on withdrawal of the toxic substance. There is usually no specific antidote (apart from the agents used to treat heavy metal poisoning p. 136). Sometimes symptomatic therapy is necessary. On the other hand, deficiency of several of the vitamins can disturb neurological function, for which deficiency states specific therapy is available.
