Abstract

How is one to define tetralogy of Fallot? One can attempt to do this haemodynamically, as in fact many other people have done in the past. The haemodynamic criteria would include first, equalization of the ventricular pressures, second, subvalvular and possibly valvular pulmonary stenosis, and third, favourable streaming, that is to say, aortic oxygen saturation higher than pulmonary artery oxygen saturation. But that definition includes such entities as double outlet right ventricle with pulmonary stenosis, and primitive ventricle, with or without transposition and pulmonary stenosis.
