Abstract
Levine9 in 1943 drew attention to the curious fact that mothers of children with haemolytic disease due to anti-Rh were more often compatibly mated on the ABO system than were unselected women. A compatible mating in this sense is one in which the husband could be a blood donor to his wife (as far as the ABO groups are concerned). There is no longer any doubt about the magnitude of this effect, as Table 77 shows.
