Abstract
The literature arising out of the IBP tundra biome studies will continue to provide stimulation for experiment and field study for many years to come. In particular, the two synthesis volumes associated with Alaskan Arctic tundra (Tieszen 1978; Brown, Miller, Tieszen and Bunnell, 1980) give us a variety of well-presented studies of soil-plant relationships in this ‘simple’ ecosystem.
