  • Chapter
Diet and Drug Interactions

Abstract

In describing diet and drug interactions, the term diet is used to include foods, nutrients, or nonnutrient components of food; nutrient formulas and their constituents; and nutrient supplements. The term drug includes alcohol and other social drugs as well as therapeutic drugs. Diet and drug interactions include all interactions occurring in vitro (in food or drug products), or in vivo (in the body) that affect the stability or disposition of food or drug components, whether or not they measurably affect physiological function or health.
