Abstract
In this chapter some applications and extensions of the preceding theory will be made which will refer mainly to geological matters such as faulting and stresses in the Earth’s crust, and to engineering problems on rock mechanics.1 Such problems are essentially those of fracture and of the behaviour of fractured material, and the relevant criteria will be studied in some detail. The more mathematical problems are those of the stresses around boreholes, tunnels and cracks.
