Abstract
There is now a formidable body of evidence linking hyperlipidaemias (or hyperlipoproteinaemias) with the development of premature atherosclerosis and ischaemic heart disease. There is also some recent evidence that hyperlipoproteinaemias are common in countries like the UK and the USA. For example, about 17% of males and females aged 15 to 80 years in a UK general practice were found to have abnormal lipoprotein patterns.
