Abstract

A circulating fluidized bed (CFB) is a special case of vertical gas/solid flows. The characteristic feature of these flows is that the gas flows in the opposite direction to gravity. Depending on the choice of particles, the gaseous medium and the adjusted superficial gas velocity, different types of gas/solid flow are obtained (Fig. 13.1). Because the accompanying flow structures influence the heat transfer, as shown in the following chapters, we begin with a detailed description of the fluid dynamics of CFBs.
