Abstract
A great variety of rock material is exposed on the Earth’s surface and, depending on the rock type, there is variation in the mineralogy as well as the conditions during rock formation and, not least, the age of the rocks. As it would lead too far to discuss the geological cycle of rock formation, especially since the resulting rocks are involved in different processes, thus causing various rock types, the isotope studies mentioned can only give an overview restricted to very common rocks.
