Abstract
A brief review of theoretical treatments of grain formation in astrophysical environments is followed by a review of lessons learned from laboratory studies of similar processes: current theory requires considerable development. A model for the formation and spectral/chemical/physical evolution of grains in oxygen-rich circumstellar environments is then presented based on considerations of the chemical processes expected during condensation and the results of laboratory experiments.
