Abstract
This overview presentation summarizes primarily the Electromagnetic (EM) research activities ongoing within the Electromagnetic Research Branch (ERB) as well as future research opportunities in computational electromagnetics (CEM) applications. A description of EM test facilities and laboratories, including measurement capabilities is presented. Also, current and anticipated CEM research in scattering, radiation, field penetration, and interference are addressed. Emphasis is from the prespec-tive of ERB’s research needs and requirements, especially those relating to the choice of analytical techniques for problem solution and efficient matrix solvers. Specific research programs discussed include analytical electromagnetic environment (EME) research for advanced subsonic technology such as the Fly-By-Light/Power-By-Wire (FBL/PBW) program; flight crucial aeronautics technology for flight crucial aircraft systems; and CEM research for advanced, composite material design applications.
This CEM Workshop provides an excellent opportunity to assess the state of this technology and to identify research tasks for future aerospace applications. It is imperative that the developement of this technology be continued for the benefits of the United States’ aerospace industry, both civilian and military, and to foster the United States’ competitiveness in the world marketplace.
