Abstract
A simple method of total boron (B) determination in silicate material, which virtually eliminates interferences from the matrix, is proposed. After sample fusion with sodium carbonate, the melt is dissolved with water and B is extracted from the aqueous phase with a B specific resin, Amberlite IRA-743. Boron is then eluted from the resin with hydrochloric acid and colorimetrically determined with azomethine-H. The preliminary results, using three reference rock standards, indicate a very good reproducibility but the measured mean values are somewhat higher than the reported working values for the standards. However, in two cases no significant differences (p<0.05) were encountered between the reported and measured values.
