Abstract
Bulgaria, Georgia, Rumania, the Russian Federation, Turkey and Ukraine share a common heritage, namely the Black Sea, which has been a centerpoint for many civilizations. This sea has served each of these countries as a backbone in their economies, but has at the same time been used as a waste receptacle by them. Both industrial and domestic effluent, as well as heavy tanker traffic, have severely polluted the Black Sea. The load of pollutants has increased tremendously by way of 34 large rivers that enter the sea from Asia and Europe.
