Abstract
The organisation of the conference has been successful in bringing persons together from different disciplinarian backgrounds, willing to listen to each other and to learn from each other. The presentations were of a high quality, introduced by Edith Lammerts van Bueren, as chairman, in such way that it became easier for the audience to follow the general line of argumentation.

Notes
Although I present here only critical comments, I want to stress that in general I appreciate very much the discussions on the conference.
The working group on technology and agrarian development (TAD) of the Wageningen agricultural university is trying to form networks in these fields. The objective is to develop collaborative research and new educational programmes (including new Msc. courses). Persons, interested in participating in these topics are asked to write to TAD
