Abstract
Flows with variable density are considered in this paper with emphasis on kinematic effects. Important variation in mean volume occurs in many engineering flows, including combustion chambers of reciprocating engines, compression corners in high speed flows, nuclear fusion by inertial confinment, not to mention astrophysics.
