Abstract

The relative abundance of metals in Ulva rigida of Thermaikos Gulf decreased in the order: Fe>Zn>Pb>Cu>Cd. The seasonal variation was significant for Cd and Zn The mean values increased from spring to fall becoming maximum in October or June (only for Cu). These variations were discussed in relation to growth dynamics, tissue age etc. The concentrations of all metals in the algal were distributed uniformly among the 5 stations.
