Abstract

In the capital of Yugoslavia, there are a great number of autochthonous and exotic species and their horticultural cultivars (ornamental forms) in the open green spaces of different types. Many of them show very successful development, health condition and degree of general vitality and decorativeness, for example: Cedrus atlantica Man., Libocedrus decurrens Torr., Tilia argentea Desf., Quer cus rubra Du Roi non L., Betula pendula Roth., etc. In this paper, we would like to point out the possibilities of introduction of some, till now very little in use, but very interesting ornamental species. Three analyzed species (Davidia involucrata Baill., Liriodendron tulipifera L. and Zelkova carpinifolia K. Koch.) showed very successful results on the appropriate sites in Belgrade and special resistance under the conditions of polluted environment, which recommend them for similar sites in urban regions.
