Risk Assessment Model and Radiation Reserves as a Perspective of Contaminated Forests Management

Contaminated Forests

Part of the book series: NATO Science Series ((ASEN2,volume 58))

Abstract

An economic use of contaminated territories, including radioactive contaminated forests represents a risk for the population and results in increased economic costs. To estimate potential environment contamination and to minimize possible ecological, economical and social consequences of such events, different models of risk assessment are applied. The complex risk assessment model, which allows us to take into account and compare different kinds of anthropogenic impacts on the environment, is discussed. Also, this approach allows us to compare effects on the different ecosystem components and determine the most reliable criteria for providing a comprehensive analysis of these effects. The way of “radiation reserves” foundation is considered to be one of the possible ways of using contaminated forest territories.
