Abstract

These lectures deal with current measurements of kaon and muon decays which address issues related to the presence of three generations (or flavors) of quarks and leptons, i.e. the generation puzzle. Advanced searches for evidence of direct CP violation in K →ππ decays are expected to yield new results shortly. The Standard Model prediction for the flavor-changing neutral current reaction \(K^ + \to \pi ^ + v\bar v\) is being challenged at the 10-10 level. New experiments are being developed to study the especially attractive CP-violating channel \(K_L^0 \to \pi ^0 v\bar v\). Very sensitive searches for lepton flavor violation and other non-Standard Model effects are reaching unprecedented levels of sensitivity. The experiments are treated in the context of their theoretical motivations.
