A Model of Mammogram Image Formation

  • Chapter
Mammographic Image Analysis

Part of the book series: Computational Imaging and Vision ((CIVI,volume 14))

Abstract

In this chapter we explain how a digital mammographic image is generated and we develop a mathematical model of the entire imaging process and explain how we calibrate it and generate the h int representation. Our modelling is centred on conventional systems, but could be adapted to directly digital systems. Our aim in this chapter is to show that with sufficient calibration we can generate an estimate of h int at each pixel as long as we have an estimate of scattered and extra-focal radiation; Chapters 3 and 4 explain how we attain those.
