Abstract
A chiral molecule characterized by different absorption of left- and right-handed polarized light (CD), is expected to emit circularly polarized light at non-polarized excitation (circular polarization of luminescence, CPL) [1,2]. The CPL is expressed by the emission anisotropy factor gem which is the weighted difference between the left- and right-handed circularly polarized components of light emitted:
where p and m are the electric and magnetic dipole moment operators respectively, A’ and B’ are the quantum states involved in the emission processes, Ple and Pre are probabilities of left- and right-handed circularly polarized emission, respectively, f and Δf are the total luminescence intensity and its circularly polarized part, respectively. When the left-handed part is larger, the gem-factor is positive. More detailed information on the CPL method was reviewed [1–3].
