Abstract
Triphenylbismuth is miscible with a wide range of polymers, making it an attractive X-ray contrast additive. Transparent materials can be obtained with radiopacities exceeding that of aluminum by at least a factor two. The additive can be covalently bound to the polymer by using polymerizable derivatives of this compound. The radiopacities are proportional to the molar concentration of the bismuth compound.
