Crystal Moduli of High Polymers and Their Temperature Dependence

  • Chapter
Integration of Fundamental Polymer Science and Technology—5

Abstract

Crystal moduli of high polymers and their temperature dependence were investigated by X-ray diffraction. Relationship among the crystal modulus, molecular conformation and intermolecular forces were discussed. On the basis of these informations, we propose three conditions which need to be fulfilled to obtain the high modulus polymers. The temperature dependence of the crystal modulus is also discussed in relation to both the thermal molecular motion in the crystal lattice and the heat resistance of the polymers.
