Abstract

Water for agriculture is virtually synonymous with practical survival of modern agriculture. The day when water was believed to be an inexhaustible supply has long since passed. Historical and current trends of food and agricultural production in the Near East and North Africa indicate a circumstance which is unsatisfactory despite substantial achievements.
