Abstract
Root samples of six different tobacco cultivars were submitted to the ARA assay. Nitrogenase activity occurred in 5 out of the 6 tobacco cultivars assayed. The nitrogen fixing microflora associated to the roots was mainly composed by Azospirilla but Bacillus and Pseudomonas also occurred.
