Framework for Erosion and Sediment Yield Modeling

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 345))

Abstract

The physically-based distributed modeling approach to linking on-site rates of soil erosion in a basin to sediment yield at the basin outlet is examined. Processes considered are: hillslope erosion by raindrop impact, overland flow, gullying and mass movement; overland flow sediment routing; channel erosion, bed sediment infiltration and storage; and channel sediment routing. The sophistication of model numerical solution techniques is not matched by that of available data provision methodologies or the current understanding of the relevant processes.
