Melting in The Presence of Natural Convection in A Saturated Porous Medium

Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Porous Media

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 196))

Abstract

This paper reviews the recent progress made on the study of melting in the presence of natural convection in a porous medium saturated with a phase-change material. The basic geometries that have been considered are the confined porous medium that is heated from the side, the vertical melting front between semiinfinite liquid and solid regions, the horizontal melting front, and the confined layer that is heated from below. Most of this work (numerical and analytical) is based on a simple model in which the liquid flow is in the Darcy regime. Improvements on this flow model are also reviewed.
