Abstract

Low cycle fatigue tests of 6 turbine steels have been performed under strain controlled conditions in boiler feed water at 90 °C with pH-values of pH 7 and pH 9. Hold times of 10 min and 30 min were introduced in tension. Additional specifically prepared specimens — simulating the conditions of the attachment blade to rotor disc — were included in the investigations in order to study the effect of crevice corrosion on fatigue behaviour of turbine steels. Electrochemical potential measurements have been carried out during cyclic straining. Microstructural examinations have been conducted to analyse the damage character.
