Abstract

The response to AIDS throughout the Western world shows both a number of similarities and several - rather more significant - differences. The similarity lies in the fact that all countries take seriously the threat posed by AIDS to public health and that in response to this, public information about AIDS, epidemiological surveys of the number of HIV-infected persons and biomedical research into developing treatments have all been started. Initiatives have also been taken in every country in the area of care for people with HIV and AIDS.
